饮完辞行，老伯送元宝出门，对他说：“这一别，又不知何时才能会面了！”言语间很是悲伤，尽现难分难舍之情。老伯返回屋内，元宝再也见不到原来的屋门和巷道，见到的却是高高的两岸江水，滚滚东去。只见一位孩童，年若十五岁，刚刚被淹死，鼻孔中还在流血。元宝才知道刚才所饮的酒就是他的血。回到彭城，子渊已经不见了。元宝和子渊同屋供吃住三年，却不知道他就是洛水的水神。
