怀特先生在一家公司工作。一天，在他吃午饭的时候，一个朋友来拜访他。他们非常高兴，以致于聊了很久。怀特先生看了一眼挂在墙上的表，大概过了四十多分钟。路比较湿，他无法停住自己的车并且和前面的一辆车撞上了。一个老年男子下来并生气地冲他叫到，“你在干什么？你想把我撞死吗？ ”“对不起，先生”怀特先生回答，“我没看见灯变红了。”然后，他掏出一瓶酒递到那人手中。“今天天气很冷，先生。”怀特先生说，“请喝一点吧，那么你会觉得暖和的。”那老男人喝了一些酒并且很高兴。他说“我现在感觉好多了，你为什么不喝一些呢？”“我现在不能喝，先生。”怀特先生回答。“我正在等警察来。你知道，只有酒鬼才会引起事故。”
