他住在哪里我不很清楚，只知道他住得离城市很远。
Except for:
ad. 除了(除...外)
例:I can do nothing except for swimming in the dog days.
在三伏天里，除了游泳，我什么事也做不成。
Except 作为介词,后面是不能直接跟句子的.
所以只能选A.(翻译:他除了给我们讲解了那个原理,而且还给我们举了几个例子).
明白了词的用法自然就选出来了.

在这个句子中是动词不定式to来修饰much。但是这种结构是必须可逆的，比如说A.反过来就变成了thank much，那么A就是错的，B，C 是同样的原因，只有D，反过来就是thankful for sth.成立。
人们被从空难中营救出来，他们想感谢很多人。
thank you somebody for doing something是固定搭配，为某事感谢某人。
根据句意，因为救他们的人是被感谢，所以用被动语态，加be!
